Traveling Information:  Small Officer, located at 605 Valley Road, Room 3, Montclair, NJ, can be easily reached by car and public transportation. From NY Penn Station, for example, the public transportation is about 45 minutes (on NJ Transit’s Montclair-Booton Line.  Depart at Upper Montclair Station). For more information, we recommend using the Plan Your Trip from NJ Transit.

For those who are flying into the area, the closest airport is Newark International Airport.

Hotel Information: There are two hotels nearby:

  1. MC Hotel in Montclair, NJ
  2. Residence Inn in West Orange, NJ

We generally recommend the MC Hotel because 1) located in the main town center of Montclair, NJ and 2) about 1 mile from the NJ Transit Montclair Booton Train Line (Bay Street at 21 Pine Street). This is the same train line as the training facility (just a few stops further).  The train service can take you to major cities nearby including New York City.

Note: Even though MC Hotel and the training venue is on the same train line, we do not recommend taking the train (even though it is clearly feasible).  NJ Transit trains are relatively infrequent, and Uber/Lyft is much quicker for the short ride.  For those who drives to the venue, there are plenty of metered parking in the vincinity (including the rear of the building).

Major Industries and Commercial Activity:  New Jersey’s diverse economy includes major pharmaceuticals, life sciences, financial services, advanced manufacturing, information technology, and transportation and logistic sectors.   Nineteen Fortune 500 companies are based in New Jersey, four of which are Fortune 100 companies.  Newark, NJ lies at the heart of the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area industrial economy. Newark is increasingly coming to rely on its strategic location at the center of air, sea, road, and rail transportation networks for economic growth. Manufacturing was traditionally the city’s most important economic activity, but it has recently been surpassed by transportation-related industries and telecommunications firms.  The city is one of the nation’s leading centers in the wholesale trade of chemicals and machinery, and the third largest writer of life insurance policies; both Mutual Benefit and Prudential Insurance Companies are headquartered in Newark.  Both PgMP and PfMP Certified Professionals enjoy strong demand in varied industries throughout the New Jersey economy.
